the 3 doshas
The science of Ayurveda established that we are composed, in varying degrees, of the elements of nature, water, earth, fire, air and space. These elements are grouped into three categories called Doshas: Vata is air and space, Pitta is fire and water and Kapha is water and earth.
The source of imbalance
According to Ayurveda, all diseases are caused by the aggravation of the Doshas. This worsening is usually caused by inadequate diet, inappropriate lifestyle, and external factors such as seasonal changes.
AIR AND SPACE
In balance, Vata's predominant people are creative, enthusiastic, energetic, sensitive and active. In imbalance, they tend to be anxious, to feel fear and lack of anchorage. They do not have a good sleep and sometimes suffer from insomnia.
FIRE AND WATER
In balance, Pitta's predominant people are spirited, passionate, courageous, hardworking and enjoying challenges. When out of balance, they will be irritable or even angry. Overfilling of the fire element will cause stomach burns or acidity in the digestive system, sometimes accompanied by diarrhea.
EARTH AND WATER
In balance, the predominantly Kapha people are devoted, loving, family oriented and empathetic. In imbalance, they tend to stagnate, feel heavy or depressed and lack motivation.
